Although life coaching and therapy or counselling may have similarities, such as asking the important questions, listening, and finding patterns in people's lives, they are not the same thing. Counseling & therapy is designed to help those with more serious challenges, lead a more normal, productive life or to get back on track. Therapy helps people learn about themselves, why they are the way they are, they learn about their past experiences and deep beliefs, how it has influenced them and why certain things trigger them in a negative way, helping heal limiting beliefs due to the past.
Therapy can also focus on diagnosis for more serious types of disorders which might include anxiety, depression, OCDs or ADHD.
Therapy and councelling can also help with healing past abuse or with going through a personal crisis at home, or with serious illnesses.
Life Coaching is different as it focuses on the now and the future. It is about helping people get from where they are to where they want to be. For most people that means reaching higher goals and creating greater success, creating more balance and happiness in their lives, and feeling more fulfilled in their lives and in their relationships – it’s about creating what they want. In many ways therapy is about resolving or managing issues from the past, whereas life coaching is about creating the future and helping clients achieve the ultimate vision they have for their lives.
Life coaching for kids is a preventative measure that sets kids and adolescents up with the mental tools needed to strengthen their mental health.
